It’s been two weeks since I moved out of the Beyond the Sea condos, and I certainly do miss it… however, the stay has had some long term benefits to the life I lead now that I’ve returned home.
Naturally, the air mattress I returned home to has made sleeping such a treat. I mean, I was sleeping alright on the ground to be honest (I adapted like a Borg… sadly, I don’t think that’s my first Star Trek reference on the blog this year). But the sleeping conditions also improved because Empire Communities actually purchased me a ‘bed in a box’ package. So, I have a fitted sheet over the mattress… then I have a normal sheet that’s been amazing for warm nights. And it also came with a comforter blanket, again which has been perfect on cooler nights. Basically, sleeping is a real treat because I have all the normal things you would expect from a bed. So, that said – life is normal while sleeping!
Some other perks that came from the stay there included a set of steak knives, tongs, and a flipper. A few forks and spoons… and two bowls, two glasses, two Empire Community branded mugs, and two plates. Basically, for a single guy I now have all the cuttlery and glassware that I could possibly ever need. All these people who have a million glasses and plates – waste of money and space! They also included some dish soap and j-clothes… which funny enough, I’ve been using the same bottle of dish soap that I started with on Day 1 of the project. I also received a bunch of toiletries (the hotel sized shampoos, soaps and mouthwashes) along with two incredible Empire Community branded towels.. a big improvement from the ONE towel I’ve been using all year. They included some branded tshirts, a hat and some canvas bags as well.
Lastly, they also included a gift card for groceries, which I didn’t use much during my stay as I had plenty of leftovers and meals at Roccos + Eden Trattoria (reviews coming this week!) The two weeks I’ve been back home I’ve used the gift card to acquire food that’s sustained me for the entire time – cereal, veggies, some meat, burgers (they had a buy one pack get one free), chicken nuggets (all white meat, on sale for a few bucks. Crazy deal.), milk, soup and ginger ale. Basically, all the staples (and a few things that helped me when I was sick last week).
The other thing that the stay at the condo brought was some media attention, which has resulted in a few extra things coming my way – so it was certainly a partnership that benefited both of us!
There’s been a few definitive moments in the project so far, but certainly one of the more impact times was the 5 day stay at Beyond the Sea!
